Dr. Osman SİREL

He is born in 10th December, 1952 in Istanbul.

Dr. Osman Sirel He graduated from the German School in Istanbul in 1972. He obtained BS degree in 1976 and MS degree in 1978 from the Bogazici (Bosphorus) University. He finished his doctoral thesis on "Design of an interface for connecting computer's RS-232-C output directly to the input of an analogue plotter" on 1984 and obtained the degree of Ph.D.

For several years he lectured at the Electronics and Communication Engineering Department of Yildiz Technical University entering undergraduate and master classes. In 1986 he founded together with his friends the company AKBIL, activity of field of which was industrial automation and continued to work there. At the beginning of 1990's, he started to work full-time in Yapı Fiziği Uzmanlık Uygulamaları San. ve Tic. A.Ş. (YFU), which he founded also in 1986 together with his father.

During his work in YFU, he designed and manufactured a mechanical goniophotometer first, and then he developed a second one which was computer-controlled having motor in one axis. With these instruments he has made many measurement until 1998 and has given valuable support to the Turkish luminaire suppliers. He designed (hardware and software) in 1997 a third goniophotometer, which had two motors in two axes, and was fully computer-controlled, which has been finished and has taken over the measurements at the end of 1998.

In 1996 he became a member of Turkish Acoustical Society (TAS). During the years 1997 and 1998 he was charged as vice president of TAS and has played an active role in the organization of the 4. National Acoustical Congress (1998 - Kas/Antalya).

Meanwhile he developed several special computer programs for calculations in illumination and acoustics.

Since 1990, the year he started to work in YFU, he worked in many projects in the fields of room acoustics, noise reduction and illumination projects, taking over all the measurement and calculations to be made and provided help in the control of the applications of the projects.

He participated many international congresses in the fields of illumination and acoustics, and has brought new knowledge and inventions to his country.

In 1994, Dr. Sirel started the cooperation between his company and the Swiss company SE, which is specialized in the field of lighting control (dimmers), and he signed under several common projects. In 2002 he has established cooperation between YFU and the German company DIAL, which work in similar fields.
